    Acquisition of Moroccan Nationality Through Maternal Descent

    Any child born to a Moroccan mother and wishing to comply with the recent provisions of the nationality code must register with the Moroccan civil registry. There are two possible situations:

    1. For a child born before April 2, 2007 (date of publication of the nationality code):

    Registration of birth in the Moroccan civil registry requires the production of a certificate of Moroccan nationality.

    2. For a child born on or after April 2, 2007:

    Registration of birth can be done directly with the competent consular services without the need to provide a certificate of nationality.

    Documents required for a child born before April 2, 2007:

    1. Child's identity:

    - Identity card, residence permit, passport, birth certificate extract.

    2. Documents regarding birth and filiation:

    - Full copy of the child's birth certificate establishing maternal filiation.

    - Recent full copy (less than six months old) of the birth certificate of the Moroccan mother.

    3. Additional documents:

    - Legalized photocopy of the mother's Electronic National Identity Card (CNIE).

    - Two recent photos of the child.

    - Copy of the marriage certificate, if applicable.

    Certificate Application Procedure:

    Options for submitting the application:

    1. Direct Submission:

    - To the Public Prosecutor at the court of first instance of the applicant's last domicile in Morocco or,

    - To the Public Prosecutor at the court of first instance of the applicant's birthplace. In the absence of a local court of first instance, the application can be submitted in Rabat.

    2. Via Consular Services:

    - The application can also be sent to the competent court in Morocco through consular services.
